". . . I want
to tell you how great your tape is and I am still amazed with it! I play it everyday and
it makes me feel great. I wish I found out about your tape a year ago - I have spent more
than $500 trying to find the book or tape and yours is it! . . ."
- T. Comito, Musician, Arizona
". . . Stand Like A Tree, Move Like A River is a visual poem that artistically
captures the beauty of nature, man and woman as well as the rhythm and essence of Tai Chi.
It is art, pure and simple! " - T. Box, Woodworking Artist, Martha's Vineyard
" Don Miller's 20-Minute Tai Chi Workout is the best Tai Chi video I have
seen! Unlike other Tai Chi videos, these exercises can truly be learned and practiced
effectively from a video. I would recommend it to anyone of any age or ability interested
in learning Tai Chi."
- A. Bloom, Tai Chi Instructor, Maine
" . . . This videotape combines Don Miller's deeply steadying voice and
precise helpful instruction with calming, uplifting music and people practicing
beautifully together. Moving with the tape brings me home; in my body, on the earth, and
in the moment - into sacred space and the presence of love and connection with all
things." - S. Snipes, Massage
Therapist, Massachusetts |
Shot on the beautiful beaches of the
famed island of Martha's Vineyard, this 96 minute instructional video includes a
marvelously diverse group of Tai Chi students of all ages, shapes, sizes and colors, led
by master-instructor Don Ethan Miller.
The easy-to-learn routine combines the most
important practices of this ancient art into a twenty minute workout that can be done
anywhere. Unlike other tapes that attempt to teach an entire Tai Chi form, but neglect the
vital basic principles of the art, Stand Like A Tree, Move Like A River
provides a complete program to "enter the gate" of Tai Chi, including:

- Standing Meditation,
- Pulsing Chi Kung,
- Rooted Free Movement,
- Tai Chi Walking,
- and 8 Essential Actions from the Yang Family
Tai Chi System.
It is the only Tai Chi instructional videotape
recommended in Dr. Andrew Weil's Self Healing newsletter (April
1999).
The idea for the 20-Minute Tai Chi Workout came
from Miller's experience teaching hundreds of individuals every year, most of whom do not
have the time to put in 2-3 hours of daily practice, as required in classical Tai Chi
study. "What should someone do who only has a half hour a day to practice, or perhaps
even less? The 20-Minute Tai Chi Workout consists of 18 exercises, distilled from hundreds
of separate practices and Tai Chi forms, that are the most essential in getting the 'Tai
Chi feeling', of being rooted and stable yet fluid and graceful at the same time," he
says. "The exercises are all classical in origin, yet they've been adapted into a
routine that anyone can fit into their daily life."
Unlike other Tai Chi instructional videos, that
attempt to teach an entire Tai Chi "form", or choreographed sequence that
includes anywhere from 60 to 150 movements, the 20-Minute Tai Chi Workout is simpler but
more powerful: "In Tai Chi, less is more," says Miller. "The idea is not to
learn a thousand different exercises or movements, but to do a few things well, and go
deeply into them. That's where the real art of Tai Chi is revealed.
" Stand
Like A Tree, Move Like A River: The 20-Minute Tai Chi Workout consists of
three main sections: A run-through of the 20-Minute Workout with poetic, inspirational
narration and music; followed by forty minutes of detailed studio instruction of the
eighteen exercises of the Workout; and concluding with another complete version of the
routine, with move-by-move instruction.
Filmed by award-winning cinematographer Ken
VanSickle with an exquisite original musical score composed by Charles Esposito and Jason
Alexander Miller, the video is a work of great visual artistry as well as high
instructional content.
